The Most Fashionable Person in the Hospital: Elizaveta Kutis, Founder of 4Doctors and Poison Atelier, Talks About the Place for Fashion in Medicine
"In our world, there is no Kardashian-Jenner equivalent, but every clinic has its own trendsetters," says Elizaveta Kutis, redefining what it means to be a fashionable medical professional.
If you're still picturing doctors shuffling around in boxy, anonymous scrubs in dull blues or grays, it's time to update your vision. Fashion has made its way into the medical world, and runway trends from Paris, Milan, and New York are influencing designs in places you wouldn't expect — like hospitals. Leading this sartorial revolution is Elizaveta Kutis, a former OB-GYN turned fashion entrepreneur who brings flair to medical uniforms. Her brands, 4Doctors and Poison Atelier, are transforming clinical wear from mundane to magnificent, capturing the attention of healthcare professionals across the globe.
With clients from Japan to France, the U.K., and Latin America, Kutis's designs have garnered international acclaim. Her latest capsule collection, presented in Monaco, was a resounding success. It turns out that doctors, too, appreciate a touch of couture.
From Delivering Babies to Delivering Style
Before her foray into fashion, Elizaveta was an obstetrician-gynecologist. So, does she miss the practice?
"Not at all," she laughs. "I come from a family of doctors. My mother, who owns her own reproductive clinic, sent us all to medical school. There was no escape route! While there were aspects of the job I enjoyed, I eventually realized it wasn't for me. Repeating the same advice, answering identical questions, and acting as a part-time therapist for patients undergoing exhausting procedures — that wasn’t my style. I’m impatient. I need things here, now, and quickly."
Still, her time in medicine wasn't wasted.
"I wouldn’t have launched my business without that inside look at the profession. There’s a lot you don’t see from the outside."
